The Lighter Side of Life, Love and Leadership: Learning the Art of Good Story Telling

“Anyone who takes himself too seriously always runs the risk of looking ridiculous; anyone who can consistently laugh at himself does not.”
(Vaclav Havel)

“A sense of humor . . . may have served as a buffer against the . . . shocks of disappointment”
(James Russell Lowe)

“To appreciate nonsense requires a serious interest in life.”
(Gelet Burgess)

In addition to our five senses, each of us has within us the capacity for developing our sixth sense of humor. Our sense of humor can help us deal with fear and anxiety. It can help us genuinely hear difficult messages while keeping things in perspective. And it can help us to cope with tragedy and crisis and maintain our joy in living.

Research shows that laughter is healing and that it is impossible for us to be happy and sad at the same time. Our sense of humor allows us to laugh at ourselves and the situations we find ourselves in. And in this way, humor is the balm that seeks to soothe the troubled soul.

Developing a sense of humor is one of the pre-requisite tools for effective living, loving and leading in our ever-changing third millennial world. There are things that happen to us that are naturally funny that are universal, regardless of race, politics, color or creed. And there are things that are specifically funny for ourselves that if shared, would resonate with everyone. Humor helps get us out of the rut of how we have been conditioned to see ourselves and our world. It is a mark of creativity rather than imitation, leadership rather than management, and paves the road towards becoming a lover of life whose shared enthusiasm and perspective can infect others to help lighten their own burdens within their families, teams and organizations.

Program Outline:

This program is about helping you develop tools and perspectives to see the lighter side of life, love and leadership. It is about developing a sense of humor that is all around us and within us. Through a series of lectures, dialogues, small group discussions, exercises, presentations and workshops, you will learn the what, why and how of awakening and developing your personal, interpersonal and organizational sense of humor and sharing it through experiencing the art of story telling.
