The following is a partial list of those who have contributed to the emerging field, study and practice of integrating life, love and leadership across history, cultures, distance and time.
Our intention is to add individuals, institutions and organizations to these lists of Builders of Integrative Philosophy, Aspects of Integrative Leadership Development and on Living an Integrative Life (Model and Framework) as our ongoing research continues.
If you have thoughts and suggestions to add to this list, please send your suggestions to iliinfo@integrativeleadership.ca
On Building an Integrative Philosophy:
- Ken Wilber: From his website: "Ken Wilber is the author of over a dozen books that has established him as perhaps the most comprehensive philosophical thinker of our times. Credited with developing a unified field theory of consciousness-a synthesis and interpretation of the world's great psychological, philosophical, and spiritual traditions-Ken Wilber is the most cogent and penetrating voice in the recent emergence of a uniquely American wisdom." He and his work can be found at: www.integralnaked.org, www.integralinstitute.com
- Arthur M. Young (1905-1995): Young was an exceptional philosopher and scientist that developed a model that was not deterministic, but heuristic in that it suggested areas of further spiritual and scientific research. Inventor of the Bell Helicopter, scientist, philosopher and cosmologist, he sought in his life to unify science and spirituality and suggest one set of unifying principles of truth that guided them both. "The universe is a theatre of increasingly complex organization, a stage for development in which man has a definite place without any upper limit to his evolution." Arthur M. Young. For more information on his theory of process and cosmology, see his website at www.arthuryoung.com
- California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS): Haridas Chaudhuri (1913-1975) founded the Institute in 1951. Since that time, the Institute has evolved to holding a unifying vision of humanity, nature, world and spirit. The use of the term "integral" stems from the integral yoga of Sri Aurobindo and from the integral philosophy, psychology, and yoga of Dr. Chaudhuri, who extended Aurobindo's work. The Institute's work involves comparative and cross-cultural studies in philosophy, religion, psychology, counseling, cultural anthropology, organizational studies, health studies, and the arts. "Reality divided by reason always leaves a remainder. After everything has been said about the universe, after the entire world has been transformed on the basis of scientific knowledge into a hierarchical structure of ever-widening systems, we are still invariably left with a profound sense of mystery." Haridas Chaudhuri. For more information, visit their website at: www.ciis.edu
- Institute of Noetic Science: (IONS): Founded by Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14 astronaut and physical scientist, in 1973 as a vehicle for exploring inner space as much as he had explored outer space. IONS mission is to "expand our understanding of human possibility by investigating aspects of reality-mind, consciousness, and spirit-that include but go beyond physical phenomena. They seek to seek to understand the inner world as thoroughly as we have the outer world-based on the premise that what finds expression in the world at large is a reflection of our interior landscape." Aspects of Integrative Leadership Development:
- Integrative Leadership: building a foundation for personal, interpersonal and organizational success published Integral Leadership Review March 2008. For more information, see their website at www.integralleadershipreview.com
- The Leadership Challenge: Empirically generated and behaviorally based model of leadership that contains five exemplary practices: Modeling, Enabling, Challenging, Encouraging and Inspiring. Developed by Barry Posner and Jim Kouzes in the 1980's, it is perhaps the most utilized transactional (mechanistic) and transformational (organic) leadership model applied to many organizations today. For more information, see their website at www.leadershipchallenge.com
- Franklin Covey: Four Roles of Leadership. Based on Stephen Covey's work of Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and Principle Centered Leadership, the Four Roles of Leadership involve Pathfinding (spirit), Empowering (heart), Aligning (mind) and Modeling (body). For more information on this approach to leadership development, visit their website at www.franklincovey.com
- Level 5 Leadership: Good to Great: Jim's bestselling book, Good to Great, is based on evaluating 1450 companies performance on the markets, eleven of whom were doing good and then changed dramatically and became great performers. In the eleven companies that he and his people investigated, they found seven principles of moving a company from good to great that were common that lead to these companies dramatic success. Among these seven, was installing a Level 5 leader at the helm of the organization. For a review of Collins work, visit his website at www.jimcollins.com.
